Fourth book in the Elizabeth Pepperhawk/Avivah Rosen Viet Nam veterans mystery series.
Ex-Special Forces Sergeant Benny Kirkpatrick is one week away from marrying Lorraine Fulford and, as he puts it, “I’ve seen courts martial that required less preparation than this wedding.” Then Benny’s mother is abducted. When her abductor’s body is discovered, Benny, Avivah and Pepper put their own romantic entanglements aside to help Benny find the killer. The price of justice may tear Benny’s family apart forever.

Randy didn't look at either of them. His toe scuffed the dirt in front of his chair. "I asked Father Fred about this, but he said he didn't have any experience and I should ask you."
Oh, God. Was this it? The talk! Pepper had been after Benny for weeks to talk to Randy about the facts of life sooner rather than later. She didn't think he'd done it, and she had no intention of picking up his slack. "I have something to do back at the house."
"No, Aunt Pepper, you stay. I'd kind of like your opinion about this, too. I mean since you're a woman and all."
Her face grew hot. "I really have to go."
Benny's fingers closed like an iron manacle around Pepper's wrist. "If Randy wants to talk to both of us, both of us will listen. We're ready, Randy, whenever you are."
